Thirunavukkarasar/Appar and Thiru Gnana Sambandhar visited the shrine at Thirumaraikkadu.  But, the temples doors were remained closed for several years.  Thirunavukkarasar passionately sung 10 songs praising the glories of Lord and miraculously the temple doors were opened,  Sambandhar zealously sang admiring the glories of Lord and the doors were shut instantly.  Sambandhar and Appar spent their nights in this temple premise.  Appar was distressed at the above incident; he had a dream in that compassionate Lord instructed him to visit the shrine at Thiruvamoor.  Appar immediately set off to Thiruvamoor without the knowledge of Sambandhar and Lord Shiva led him to this temple.  Sambandhar was anxiously searched all over for Appar and arrived at Thiruvamoor.   Appar fervently sang praising the Lord pleading Him to reveal his presence to Sambandhar in any case.    Immediately Lord revealed his presence to Sambandhar that brought him immense bliss.  Further, Sambandhar was benevolently revealed the image of Lord to Appar that brought him into ecstasy.

This temple remains open from 6.30 AM to 11.30 AM in the morning and 4.00 PM to 8.00 PM in the evening.
